Clay Candle Kit Tutorial

Clay Candle Kit Tutorial

On a safe, non-stick surface, choose 4 colors of clay.
Start rolling each of them into 5-inch long rods.
Twist the 4 rods together.
Roll into a 10-inch rod.
Fold in half and then twist together again
Repeat this step 1-2 more times before you finally smoosh the shape into a ball that feels smooth to touch; working on making it as round as possible too.
Slowly press your thumb into the center of the clay, until it’s just over halfway through.
Use your fingers and bend your thumb to pinch out the shape of your clay vessel.
When you are happy with the shape of your clay vessel, start working on thinning out and shaping the rim with your finger and thumb.
ou will want a maximum outer diameter of 2.75 inches  and a height no taller than 1.5 inches.
Repeat the whole process with the rest of the clay.
Preheat the oven to 275 F. Place the clay vessels onto a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the clay vessels from the oven and allow them to cool before moving onto step 4 - pouring your candles.
Take your candle wicks and place them in the center of your vessels, with the wick stickers provided. Use the wick centering tools to center your wicks and keep them in place.
Microwave option - Remove the lid from your mason jar. Microwave the mason jar for approximately 2 to 3 minutes, depending on the wattage of your microwave, until the wax has just fully liquefied. Use oven mitts to carefully remove the mason jar from the microwave.
Double boiler option - Remove the lid from your mason jar. Place your mason jar into a small pot with 2” of water. Bring the water to a boil. Stir continuously until the wax has just fully liquefied. Use oven mitts to carefully remove the mason jar from the pot.
Let the melted wax cool undisturbed for 3 minutes.  Using the wood whisk, gently stir the first fragrance oil into the melted wax for 2 minutes.
Carefully pour the wax + fragrance concoction into three clay vessels you prepared.
Wash your mason jar with hot water and dish soap and completely dry before starting batch #2. For easy clean-up, place the mason jar in your sink, and pour hot water (carefully!) into it. This helps break up the wax. Be sure to let it cool before washing with a soapy sponge.
Repeat the steps above with your second fragrance oil to fill the next three clay vessels.
Set your candles on a flat surface for at least 24 hours. For best results (i.e. maximal diffusion of fragrance), let your candles sit for a minimum of 3 days, up to 2 weeks before use. It will be worth the wait! Trim wicks to 1/4” above wax before each burn.
